Ring 2 - Katie Wolf In selecting Mini-Mancha Champion, there is
one doe that stood out as soon as I saw her and that is the
winning four-year-old.
She excels the next two youngest doe easily in general
appearance.
Additionally, she shows a flatter bone pattern than the 3yo, a
deeper forerib than the 2yo, and more udder support than the
yearling. A pretty
clear top in my mind. The next closest does in line for reserve
are the 3yo and the second place four-year-old.
This is where things get slightly tough.
In the end, I’m going to stay in the same class as the
grand and use the four-year-old.
Her primary advantage over the 3yo lies in dairy
character. She is
sharper at the withers, more open in her ribbing, a more
incurving though, and a longer and flatter in bone pattern
resulting in a more dairy shape.
To complement this, she has advantages in general
appearance with greater angulation to her hock in side profile
and more levelness over the topline. Best udder selections, #1 yearling, #3 2yo,
#2 3yo, #2 4yo Closest between the grand 4yo and the 3yo
class winner. These
two along with the two-year-old had undoubtedly the best
attachments and are the best 3 udders in the breed.
Being able to feel udder texture may change things.
For best udder, I’m going with the 3yo over the 2yo, for
her wider rear udder attachment, better teat placement.
She goes over the older doe for closer teat placement &
superior teat delineation.
