Process for Registration of AI Sired Kids
Offspring produced by the use of frozen semen in breeding may be registered with MDGA under the following conditions:
When a registration application is submitted for progeny resulting from the use of Artificial Insemination, the completed registration application MUST be accompanied by a completed Artificial Insemination Service Memo.
In addition, the Collection of the A.I. sire’s straws must be properly documented. :
MDGA or TMGR-registered sires of offspring resulting from the use of frozen semen in breeding must have collection reports on file with MDGA prior to submission of the offsprings’ registration applications to MDGA.
ADGA-registered sires of offspring resulting from use of frozen semen in breeding must conform to applicable ADGA policies.
Collection reports filed with ADGA will be checked via the ADGA Genetics website prior to registration of the buck’s offspring with MDGA.
Bucks with a registration number lower than 0644000 (registered earlier than approximately 7/1/85) can be used in breeding as long as: the full name and registration number are on the semen straw or ampoule AND a photograph of the straw used, showing the identification information above, is submitted with the registration application.
If the collection date is missing on an Artificial Insemination Service Memo for a buck whose registration number is greater than 0819600 (generally born between 1988 and 1990), or if the processor name is missing (on any Record of Artificial Insemination memo, regardless of the registration number of the buck), the registration application will be reviewed by the AI Committee on a case-by-case basis. Bucks that fall into one of these two categories but are listed in the ADGA database and have AI offspring registered by ADGA will be accepted with no further deliberation. Bucks that do not have ADGA-registered AI offspring will be reviewed for acceptance on an case-by-case basis. A photograph of the actual straw used in the insemination, showing full name and registration number on the straw, will be considered proof of collection in this case.
Semen collected between January 1, 1991, and October 23, 2001, must be identified with a collection date; this collection date must be included on the AI memo. The buck must have had at least one buck collection report filed with the ADGA office within the stated time period of January 1, 1991, to October 23, 2001.
AGS-ONLY-registered sires - A collection forms filed with AGS ONLY may be submitted directly to MDGA, or a collection form will need to be verified by the owner of the semen through a request to AGS to provide a copy of the form to the MDGA AI Chair, if necessary.
It is highly recommended that straws or ampoules used to inseminate does be kept until after the resulting offspring are successfully registered, in case that additional verification of the sire used is required.
